The Protein and Co-Products Division Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes significant contributions to the advancement of protein and co-products through research and applications. This award is presented every other year.
What does the recipient receive?
- Plaque
- Up to a US $1,500 travel allowance
- Complimentary Protein and Co-Products Division meal ticket
- Opportunity to present an award lecture at the AOCS Annual Meeting
Who is eligible?
- Scientists, technologist, or leader who have:
- made significant contributions to the knowledge, technology or history of the industry, through their career or as a technical mentor
- contributed to the growth and success of the of the Protein and Co-Products Division by committing time and expertise through involvement on the leadership team or other Division committees/activities
- demonstrated character, ethics and a reputation that places them above their peers
- Preference is given to Protein and Co-Products Division members who have more than 15 years of membership (does not need to be consecutive years)
How do I nominate someone?
Login to the Awards Portal to submit the following nomination materials and answer two questions about the nominee.
- Letter of nomination describing the candidate’s research and service in the fields of fats, oils and related materials
- At least three letters of support from individuals familiar with the candidate’s accomplishments
- Curriculum Vitae which includes a full list of publications and patents

Most Recent Recipient
Phil Kerr has dedicated his 30-year career to advancing plant proteins for improved global health, nutrition, and sustainability. He serves as Vice President of the Protein Highway, a U.S.-Canada initiative promoting cross-border collaboration for protein-rich crops, and as Chief Technology Officer at Prairie Aquatech, where he develops microbial-enhanced technologies to improve protein digestibility for aquaculture, benefiting both the environment and affordability.
Kerr believes the future of plant proteins lies at the intersection of affordability and sustainability. He values AOCS for its global community and its role in advancing methods that ensure consistency and quality in the plant protein industry.
