The American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS) seeks candidates for Lipids Editor-in-Chief.  

The journal was founded in 1966 and publishes original full-length research articles, rapid communications, and invited reviews in lipid research focusing on the chemistry, biochemistry, and metabolism of lipids, lipidomics, and preclinical and clinical nutrition. In addition, Lipids publishes papers establishing novel methods to address questions in lipid research. More information on the aims and scope of Lipids can be found here 

We are looking for a motivated individual and experienced lipids researcher who is eager to align our journal with the growth the field is currently undergoing. We need a strong leader familiar with the shifting business models taking place in academic publishing and a clear vision for how to drive our journal towards success.  

We are seeking someone who can begin this position no later than June 1, 2024. The term for this appointment is five years, with an option for one additional term. This is a volunteer position with limited compensation designated for travel reimbursement when attending conferences. 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Fulfill the journal’s scope by overseeing manuscript acceptance or solicitation 
  • Lead a team of associate editors with a knowledge base that represents the primary focus areas of lipids research and update the team as research focuses shift 
  • Work closely and cooperatively with AOCS and our publishing partner, Wiley 
  • Formulate special issues and identify guest editors 
  • Recruit peer reviewers and prominent international authors 
  • Act as the journal ambassador at conferences and industry events, encouraging submissions where appropriate 
  • Attend the AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo and chair a state-of-the-journal type meeting 
  • Ensure the journal publishes a balanced and diverse range of views and research

  • International network of contacts in the field 
  • Networking activities such as conferences and professional organizations
