Special Collections

Increase the efficiency and bottom line of your lab by purchasing only the methods you need. AOCS offers several special collections of methods at a great savings.

AOCS Methods for Biodiesel Feedstock Quality

Biodiesel is a safe, biodegradable alternative to petroleum-based diesel. Biodiesel produces less air pollutant, thus improving our environment. It is made from an increasingly diverse mixture of resources including agricultural oils, recycled cooking oil, and animal fats. It also meets the strict specifications of ASTM D6751. AOCS is offering a collection of methods to measure key feedstock parameters for the determination of quality.

AOCS Methods for trans Fatty Acid Analysis

Partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs) are vegetable oils that have undergone chemical processing to replace double bonds (unsaturated areas) with hydrogen. PHOs have been long used in industry for their effects on shelf life, stability, melting point, and flavor in foods, though their use has been in decline over recent years largely owing to label regulations. This collection contains validated methods for trans fatty acid analysis.

AOCS Methods for Corn Distillers Oil Quality

Over the past decade, the ethanol industry has emerged as a major producer of corn distillers oil (CDO), which is used as an animal feed ingredient or feedstock for biodiesel production. In 2015, approximately 85% of dry mills were extracting oil, and it is estimated that more than 2.7 billion pounds of CDO were produced. AOCS is supporting the industry's endeavor to produce a quality oil by offering this collection of testing methods selected specifically for CDO.

AOCS Methods for MCPD Ester

Glycerol-based process contaminants found in oils, margarines, and some processed foods raise potential health concerns for average consumers of these foods in all age groups. We have adopted several official methods, and are continuing to investigate more. Purchase this collection of validated methods for MCPD analysis to characterize 3-MCPD- (or monochloropropane-1,2-diol), 2-MCPD- and glycidyl-esters in oils and fats.

Methods of Analysis for Cosmetic Ingredients

Consumers are becoming increasingly interested in ingredients in their foods as well as all products that come into contact with their bodies. AOCS has partnered with the Society of Cosmetic Chemists to assemble a collection of methods for testing cosmetic starting materials. These Methods help producers build another level of quality assurance into their products.
