AOCS Technical Services has collaborated with Monsanto Company (St. Louis, MO) to develop Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) for the Roundup Ready® (1445), Bollgard® (531), Bollgard® II, Bollgard®/ Roundup Ready®, and Bollgard® II/ Roundup Ready® cottonseed. The CRMs, AOCS 0804-A; B; C; D; E; and F, were prepared according to ISO Guides 30-35 and are intended to serve as a control group for third party testing of cottonseed or grain for the 1445 and 531 transformation events.

The purity of AOCS 0804-A, non-modified cottonseed, and AOCS 0804-B(Roundup Ready®) C (Bollgard®), D (Bollgard® II), E (Bollgard®/ Roundup Ready®), and F (Bollgard® II/ Roundup Ready®) cottonseed, was verified by DNA- (GeneScan USA, New Orleans, LA) and protein- (Agdia, Elkhart, IN, USA) based detection methods. Materials were ground by the Texas Engineering Experiment Station, Texas A & M University, College Station, TX, USA. The ground cotton has been packaged in a nitrogen environment into 27 ml headspace vials containing 10g of ground material.
