AOCS Technical Services has collaborated with Monsanto Company (St. Louis, MO) to develop Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) for the Roundup Ready® (RT73) canola seed. The CRMs, AOCS 0304-A and AOCS 0304-B, were prepared according to ISO Guides 30-35 and are intended to serve as a control group for third party testing of canola seed or grain for the RT73 transformation event.

The purity of AOCS 0304-A, non-modified canola seed, and AOCS 0304-B, Roundup Ready® canola seed, was verified by DNA- (GeneScan USA, New Orleans, LA) and protein- (EnviroLogix, Portland, ME) based detection methods. Materials were prepared by blending the bulk sources of seed in a paddle-mixer, dividing, and then sub-sampling into 100g anti-static, heat-sealed bags. Buyers are expected to grind the complete sample and prepare their own blends of adventitious presence if desired.
