| A Note from the President |
I want to welcome you to this new
electronic
version of the Processing Division Newsletter. We
hope it meets your needs as a superior method of
delivering relevant and important information about
the Division and the processing industry in general.
The upcoming AOCS Annual Meeting in St.
Louis
will mark the end of my term as president. It has
been an interesting and rewarding experience. I have
been blessed by having a very active and supportive
Division Board, with representatives of industry,
academia and the equipment/consulting field. The
office of Division President will be taken over by
Ramanathan Narayanan of Ag Processing, Inc. Mike
Snow of Bunge USA will assume the role of Vice
President.
I leave the Division in good hands, and
with an
outstanding program for St. Louis. For the first time,
our Division is offering a session for the Tuesday AM
plenary Hot Topics program, on Energy. The balance
of the program is equally well organized. A separate
short course on oil refining and processing will take
place on Saturday/Sunday. I will be speaking at this
short course along with several other Division
members.
In closing, the most important thing that I
have
taken from my time in governing the Division is that,
like any other organization, AOCS will be to you what
you make of it. The Society belongs to its members
you and me. AOCS is in the midst of great change
that will allow it to continue to be the leading
organization in this field and continue to be a place
where young people can come into the industry and
shape a career around it, like you and I did. Please
take a minute to make a donation to AOCS
Foundation to help support this opportunity, for us
and the next generation.
As always, I welcome your input and
comments (mboyer@aesms.com).
Mike Boyer
