	printer-friendly version . send feedback on this newsletter AOCS Lipid Oxidation and Quality Division Newsletter July 2007 The Edwin Frankel Best Paper Award The Edwin Frankel Best Paper Award in Lipid Oxidation and Quality for 2006 was presented during the LOQ luncheon at the AOCS Annual Meeting in Québec City. The winning paper, by Usha Thiyam, Heiko Stöckman, and Karin Schwarz, was published in JAOCS vol.83(6): 523-528, and entitled: "Antioxidant Activity of Rapeseed Phenolics and Their Interactions with Tocopherols During Lipid Oxidation." Usha Thiyam was there to accept the award. Click here to read the paper online. This award, sponsored by the LOQ division, is presented annually to the author(s) of the best paper relating to lipid oxidation or quality published during each year in an AOCS publication. Nominated papers are judged by at least 3 anonymous members of the Division representing academia, government, and industry. Nominations for the 2007 award can be made at any time, and can be sent to Jill Winkler at jill.winkler@ars.usda.gov. Also in this newsletter: Message From the Chair, by Jim Barren Updated Bylaws The bylaws have been updated to reflect changes in the way we communicate. Thus, the executive committee would like everyone to have a chance to review the bylaws and near the end of the year will call for a vote to accept the changes. No significant changes have been made. Click here to read the bylaws. Beer Tasting Event Survey LOQ is interested in holding a session that will teach people the basics of beer tasting. We envision a basic session demonstrating the different flavors that occur in beer and how to recognize them, along with corresponding sampling.
