AOCS ANNUAL MEETING SPECIAL

AOCS 2008 Annual Meeting in Seattle May 18-21, Discounted Registration Available Through February 29

AOCS is planning an excellent 99th Annual Meeting and Expo, offering participants a full technical program and many networking events. Here are some key division events to take note of:

  • Sunday, May 18, 1:00-2:30 p.m.: Board Meeting
  • Monday, May 19, 12:00-1:30 p.m.: Roundtable Discussion. An open invitation is extended to members of the Processing Division to attend our roundtable discussion during the AOCS meeting. It is a great opportunity to meet the board and discuss the topics and programs that you would like to see throughout the year and at our annual meetings.
  • Tuesday, May 20, 12:00-2:00 p.m.: Luncheon ($35 early / $45 standard). At this year’s luncheon, we plan to invite a speaker from the venture capital community to discuss new opportunities for the fats and oils industry. Area of discussion include biofuels, biomaterials and earth-friendly products. We will also be presenting the division awards at the luncheon.
  • Monday, May 19, 6:00-11:00 p.m.: Processing Hospitality
  • Tuesday, May 20, 5:00-7:00 p.m. & 9:00-11:00 p.m.: Processing Hospitality

The current draft of the technical program is online. Updates and other conference information can be found at the official Annual Meeting webpage, including short courses and a complete schedule. Check back; the website will be continuously updated as new information becomes available.

This year’s Hot Topic Symposium from the Processing Division is on the topic of alternative biodiesel feedstock. Speakers are also planned to discuss oil extraction in ethanol plants as well as biodiesel plant logistics. The featured speakers come from different backgrounds and include:

  • Dr. Christopher Guay, Director of Research, Community Fuels. He will be addressing the issues of different options for a small biodiesel processor.
  • Mr. Jonathan Wolfson, CEO, Solazyme. He will be addressing the status of algae as a feedstock for biodiesel processing.
  • Dr. Philip Marrone, Chemical Engineer, SAIC. He will be addressing the feedstocks and options for 2nd generation biofuels.
