	printer-friendly version . send feedback on this newsletter Lipid Oxidation and Quality Division web site AOCS Lipid Oxidation and Quality Division Newsletter February 2008 AOCS ANNUAL MEETING SPECIAL Member Highlight: Michael Eskin, Ph.D. Dr. Eskin is a Food Scientist in the Department of Human Nutritional Sciences Faculty of Human Ecology at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. He received his Ph.D. under Dr. Sybill James at the University of Birmingham, UK. Dr. Eskin is a past chair of the LOQ Division and was the first chair of the Division Council. He currently serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society and is on the Advisory Board of inform. At the University of Manitoba, Dr. Eskin is both Acting Head and Associate Dean. He still teaches graduate and undergraduate level courses and advises both M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. He also serves on a number of graduate committees and has faculty of graduate status at the University of Guelph. The primary focus of his research is on the properties and performance of canola oil with particular interest on minor components. He also studies the functional and health properties of yellow mustard mucilage. At the upcoming annual meeting he will be presenting a paper on "Policosanols as Nutraceuticals" in the LOQ session as well as another paper with Dr. Usha Thiyam on "Minor Components in Canola Oil." Dr. Eskin is a Fellow of the AOCS and was awarded the Timothy Mounts Award at the 2007 Annual AOCS Conference held in Québec City. In addition to over 100 peer-reviewed papers, Dr. Eskin is the author and co-author of 9 books including the recent bestseller in the CRC Food Science Series, Dictionary of Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods co-authored with Dr. Snait Tamir.
