AOCS Annual Meeting May 13-16 in Québec City
This year's Annual Meeting offers Lipid Oxidation and Quality Division members a robust technical program and three networking events.

The technical program is online, including oral presentations and poster presentations. Updates and other conference information can be found at the official Annual Meeting webpage.

Division members may also be interested in the Lipid Oxidation and Antioxidants Short Course, to be held May 12 and 13 at the Hilton Québec. The Course Organizer is Edwin N. Frankel, from the University of California, Davis, USA. This one-and-a-half day comprehensive short course is designed to help participants understand the major factors that affect the stability of oil-bearing foods, how antioxidants can be used to minimize the effects of lipid oxidation, and how antioxidants increase their stability as a basis for development of healthful products. The course will provide students with an appreciation for the multitude of complicated phenomena that affect activity of antioxidants in foods and biological systems by emphasizing mechanistic aspects of antioxidants and lipid oxidation. The highly qualified faculty will instruct participants of the multiplicity and complexity of factors influencing oxidative stability and quality of food lipids, antioxidants as applied to nutritional aspects and emulsions, and how oxidative deterioration would ultimately affect the flavor and nutritional quality of end products. The course should be of interest to chemists, food scientists, researchers in lipid oxidation and antioxidants, nutritionists, lipid technologists, and industrial managers responsible for selection of raw materials, quality control, and marketing of processed foods. Remember to sign up for the Lipid Oxidation and Quality Division Luncheon when registering for the meeting. The luncheon will be Monday, May 14, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Other Lipid Oxidation and Quality networking events include the Roundtable Discussion Tuesday, May 15, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and the Board Meeting Sunday, May 13, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Call for Nominations
The Lipid Oxidation and Quality Division Board will be changing at the AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo in Québec City, Canada, in May of 2007. If you would like to volunteer, or nominate someone else for a position (chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary, treasurer, or member at large) on the Lipid Oxidation and Quality Board, please contact Tom Tiffany at: tiffany@admworld.com. Nominations are being accepted until February 28, 2007.

Changes to Division Bylaws
The March Division newsletter will include changes to the bylaws, and members should be prepared to vote on the changes either at the meeting or soon after.
