In the lists of web sites (or URLs - Uniform Resource Locators) listed in this article, the ones the author has found to be particularly useful are marked with an asterisk. Needless to say, the asterisk is not part of the address and should not be use when entering the URL into your web browser. PLEASE NOTE: Many of these sites are HUGE, containing thousands of links! From societies, journals databases, organizations, MSDS (and safety), libraries and, of course, humor, to commercial sources for instrumentation, glassblowingor supplies, to tutorials, education and conference/ meeting sites related to analytical chemistry (chromatography, spectroscopy, spectrometry), all linked by computers, software (data acquisition, molecularmodeling) and statistics. The Chemical Database (Univ. of Akron)- Search by chemical name(s), CAS format formula and registry numbers [CAS, EINCEC, RTECS, Merck, Beilstein, UN(DOT), Std. Transport. No., EPA pesticide code and RCRA].
Dr. Duke's Phytochemical and Ethnobotanical Databases (USDA, ARS) - Search by chemical name for composition, biological activities, flavor, oxidation, lubricant status, pesticide applications.

i) Newsgroups
Another type of newsgroup. You post letters and the responses are posted, but you have to access the site to get or post messages. Best to search (Google, AltaVista, etc.) for the newsgroup, access the site and follow instructions.
