A. Richard Baldwin Award
Sponsored by Cargill Inc.

This award was first given in 1981 to Dr. A. Richard Baldwin to recognize his lengthy and distinguished service to the AOCS and for his leadership within the Society. The award consists of a plaque, a $2,000 honorarium, and travel expenses. The purpose of the A. R. Baldwin Award is to recognize and honor an individual who is (or has been) an Active Member of the AOCS.

ELIGIBILITY
Nominee must have made an outstanding contribution to the Society or supported the activities of the Society through officer and/or committee participation over a substantial period. The recipient of the award must be living at the time the award is approved by the Governing Board and long enough thereafter to have signified his willingness to accept the award. The actual presentation, however, may be made posthumously to a representative of the recipient.

NOMINATIONS
Nominations will be accepted from members of the Society, or colleagues, or directly from the individual candidates.

Outstanding contribution to the Society shall be interpreted to mean unusual service to the Society and not merely long-time Society participation. Primarily, the nominee will be judged on the basis of outstanding contribution to the Society. Although the award will be made on the basis of the qualifications stated above, should two or more nominees have equal qualifications, preference should be given to a nominee who may be considered an "elder statesman" in the sense that he has completed or is nearing completion of his period of maximum activity in the Society. Nominees from any Section of the Society are equally eligible for the AOCS award on the basis of outstanding contributions stated above. In making the award, primary consideration shall not be given to whether or not recent awards have been made to nominees in any one Section.
