As we move forward in this century, we are experiencing a time of rapid change. There will continue to be an unprecedented demand for natural resources, which in turn is driving the cost of fuels and industrial chemicals higher. This conference will provide an overview of emerging technologies that are “Biobased” renewable resources.
You cannot afford to miss this innovative conference and its comprehensive view of the current industry and projections for the future!

Technical Program
The technical program will feature invited presentations by leading experts, volunteer oral presentations, and volunteer poster presentations.
Session I: Alternative Fuels Co-Chairs: J. Holmgren, UOP LLC, USA; and G. Knothe, USDA, ARS, NCAUR, USA. What is the future of biobased fuels in light of the future cost projections of petroleum- and natural gas-based fuels? This session will review a comparison of gas to liquid, coal to liquid, and biomass to liquid technologies; cellulose to ethanol technologies, biodiesel, “green diesel” and the potential impact on vegetable oil supplies; and provide an update on new engine technologies.
Session II: Lubricants and Oleochemicals Co-Chairs: R. Gresham, Society of Tribologists and Lubricant Engineers, USA; and S. Erhan, USDA, ARS, NCAUR, USA. What are the functional requirements for biobased lubricants and the potential for replacement by vegetable oil-based products for this and other markets? This session will discuss the issues and opportunities for oleochemicals to be used as lubricating and hydraulic fluids, including testing methodology and environmental benefits.
Session III: Biobased Chemicals and Biopolymers Co-Chairs: R. Gross, Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences, Polytechnic University, USA; and P. Bloom, Archer Daniels Midland Company, USA. What are the new applications for new biobased chemicals and biopolymers? This session will discuss new chemicals; glycerol to propylene glycol; hydroxyl propionic acid; 1,3-propane diol update; isosorbide; butanol; urethane polyol replacements. In addition, this session will delve into the new advances on polylactic acid, polyhydroxyl alkanoates, and modified cellulosics and starches. |
