Fatty Acids in Body Weight Regulation and Obesity

Hot Topic Symposium

Tuesday, May 5

9:15 am-12:15 pm

Organizer: P. Kearney, PMK Associates, Inc., USA..

As the 2010 U.S. Dietary Guidelines approach and the obesity epidemic remains a major focus in nutrition policy, the optimal amount and types of fatty acids for health is a topic of debate. There has been a rebound of the question: “Does fat make you fat?” As the food industry continues with trans fat removal, changing fatty acids in our foods may have implications for health. Emerging science is indicating that specific fatty acids function differently in metabolism and therefore may impact weight and health differently. This program will provide cutting-edge research and critical insights into how specific fatty acids affect our body’s metabolism and why they may be a significant player in maintaining body weight and improving disease risk.
