Corporate History and Milestones:
Novozymes was founded in 2000 in a demerger from pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk. Novozymes’ roots date back to the 1920s when Novo Terapeutisk Laboratorium and Nordisk Insulinlaboratorium were established in Copenhagen, Denmark. Enzyme production began in 1941.

Sustainability is an integral part of the business, and Novozymes enables its customers to optimize their use of raw materials and energy, thereby reducing the environmental impact of their operations. In 2012 alone, the worldwide application of Novozymes’ bioinnovation enabled reductions in CO2 emissions of approximately 48 million tons.
