Distillers Grains: Production, Properties, and Uti

During the past several years, distillers dried grains with solubles (known as DDGS) has become a major feed ingredient in North America, and its use is increasing globally. During processing, corn is fermented to produce alcohol, which is then mixed with gasoline and serves as an oxygenate. While it is sometimes debated whether ethanol produces a net gain in fuel, and whether this is sustainable, there is no question that millions of tons of non-fermented residues are now available to the feed industry in the form of DDGS. As might be expected, a tremendous amount of research has been conducted in a short period of time to determine the suitability of DDGS for various end uses. The objective of this book is to provide a comprehensive summary of this information.
