About IYC 2011

2011 is designated the International Year of Chemistry (IYC 2011) to “celebrate the achievements of chemistry and its contributions to the well-being of humankind” by The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESO) . 

AOCS and IYC 2011; Chemistry –our life, our future

AOCS involvement in IYC 2011:

  • Connect oil chemistry to  daily life
  • Educate students on career opportunities in chemistry

AOCS teamed with Monsanto Crop Sciences to take chemistry to high school students to Monsanto’s Crop Analytics Mobile Laboratory (CAML).

Students had the opportunity to view a demonstration of the lab on Thursday, May 13, to see real-life applications of oil chemistry and realize the variety of career opportunities available.
