Schroepfer Medal

Recognizing major advances in the steroid or sterol field.

The award was established to honor the memory of George J. Schroepfer, Jr.,, a leader in the sterol and lipid field for more than 40 years.  The award aims to foster Schroeper's ideals of personal integrity, high scientific standards, perseverance, and a strong spirit of survival, tempered by charm and wit.

Presented every two years (years ending in an even number).

Eligibility

Candidate's work may represent a single major achievement or a series of significant accomplishments, but should be based upon sound primary experimental data.

Preference is given to accomplishments in:

  • Biochemistry and physiology with biomedical applications
  • Interdisciplinary research in which rigorous chemical and analytical methods were applied to elucidate the physiological roles of steroids in animals, plants, or microorganisms
  • Fundamental advances that are primarily chemical, pharmacological, or analytical will also be considered
 

Award

  • Bronze medal for recipient
  • Honorarium, determined by the endowed fund investment return
